Short and Quick Putting
Problem
When you get nervous, your putts become short and quick. This, of course makes you miss the cup.
Cure
When you start feeling anxious, squeeze the grip of the putter as hard as possible for about 30 seconds. Now relax your hands. This will help take the tension out of your hands and arms for a more relaxed stroke.
Therapy
You might find it worth it to take out enough time to make an extra practice stroke to help slow your swing down. After gripping the club really hard, allow your arms to hang like cooked noodles. Intentionally take a very, very slow practice stroke. Although you need to start out extremely slow, you still need to remember to gradually accelerate into impact. Take a deep breath, and make a normal practice swing at the pace and speed you desire. As you do this, imagine that you are making a long and flowing type stroke. Set up to the ball, take another deep breath and try to replicate your practice swing.
