Shake Your Head

Problem

Your neck hurts the day after playing a round. You also have to put in extra effort to keep your head down during the entire swing.

Cure

Rotation or the movement of your head during the swing is normal. In fact, if you restrict your head movement, you will be unable to fully turn your shoulders as you take the club back and through.

Therapy

Swing the club in slow motion without a ball. Forget about trying to keep your head still. Just swing naturally and pay attention to your head movement. You should expect your head to turn a little as your shoulders turn into the backswing and then towards the target during your downswing. Tee a ball and notice how you can still keep the ball within your sight as you shake your head as if in disagreement. You will be able to make a better turn, gain distance and have a lot less strain on your neck as you swing.
