Tip From the Archives
Seven Iron Blast
Problem
The ball is sitting down the sandpit but you still have quite a distance from the green.
Cure
If the ball was sitting up on the surface of the sand, using a hybrid or fairway wood would be a good option. However, with the ball sitting deeper in the sand, using a seven iron will help it out and still give you more distance than you would get with your sand wedge.
Therapy
Open the face of the seven iron to utilize the bounce. Place the ball forward in your stance. Use a slightly aggressive swing. Enter the sand about four inches behind the ball so that the clubhead moves through the sand, under the ball. Make a full follow through.
