Tip From the Archives
Sand Slap
Problem
You need to work on your sand shots.
Cure
When you tee off, aim for the sand bunkers. Do not play out the hole. Instead, stay in the bunker and drop a few balls and hit out of it from at least two different locations. Practice hitting out of the bunker over high and low lip locations. Work on making short and long distance shots. Try to get a feel for the height and roll associated with each of these shots.
Therapy
Draw a line two to three inches behind the ball in the sand. Practice using the bounce of the club by slapping the sole against that line as you swing through. On fairway bunkers, practice using a hybrid or one of your irons to get a feel for distance shots.
