Sand Pile

Problem

Your ball landed on top of a soft pile of sand created by the wind.

Cure

Normally when your ball has landed in the sand bunker, you want to dig the clubface into the sand. Because the sand is piled up loosely, you should make a sweeping motion on a flatter swinging plane.

Therapy

Set up to the ball so that your hands are aligned over the ball and your feet are in a closed position. Place your bodyweight evenly onto both of your feet. Allow the clubface to open a little as you take your backswing. Your shoulders should rotate back on a flat swinging plane. Let your shoulders start the turn down towards the ball with your hands and arms moving smoothly as if it were all one unit. If you need to put a draw spin on the ball, allow the toe of the club to move ahead of the heel by letting your trailing hand and forearm to rotate a little.
