Tip From the Archives
Rubber Band Chip
Problem
You flick your wrists while chipping which causes you to lose loft and the ball flies further than desired.
Cure
Keep your wrists still throughout the swing, especially the forward wrist. One way to know you are breaking your wrists is that you will see the butt end of the club during your backswing. The top of the shaft of the club should remain aligned with your forward wrist throughout the entire swing.
Therapy
Place the majority of your weight on your forward foot. Put the ball off of your back foot. Set your hands ahead of the ball and chip the ball using only your arms and shoulders. Keep your wrists and body still. If you see any wrist movement or notice the butt of the club pointing towards the target during your backswing, place a wide rubber band or tight wristband around your wrists and the shaft of the club. This should help prevent wrist movement while chipping.
