Tip From the Archives
Rotate It Open
Problem
You are digging the club deep into the ground while pitching or you want to improve your pitches.
Cure
One aspect of a pitch that is often over looked is the importance of allowing the clubface to open during the backswing. Work on opening the face with a natural motion.
Therapy
Swing the club back in slow motion. It is okay to have the face square but when you rotate it open it will give you better loft. It also exposes the flange of the club so the club glides more across the ground instead of digging deep into it. So, slowly work on a natural rotation of the club as you take it back. Progressively increase your speed once you have the feel for rotating the clubface open.
