Tip From the Archives
Rolling Offline
Problem
Every time you purposely try to accelerate your putts, the ball rolls off of your intended line.
Cure
When you actively try to accelerate the putter through the ball, it will change how hard you grip the club. This will turn the putterhead so the ball does not roll true to your line.
Therapy
Work on gaining a natural stroke for effortless acceleration by allowing your arms and the putter to move like a pendulum several times before approaching the ball. One possible reason that you are having difficulty is because you feel that the stroke is over once you hit the ball and then end the stroke. This would cause you to decelerate too early in your swing or to stand up straight after contact. Remember to hold your posture and to make a follow through that matches or even exceeds that of your back stroke.
