Tip From the Archives
Rolling Lob
Problem
You are seeing too much distance and roll on your lob shots.
Cure
Try to get the clubface open longer at impact for shorter shots with a higher trajectory and a soft landing.
Therapy
Lighten your grip with your forward hand. Make sure you are not taking too full of a swing, causing you to decelerate just before impact to prevent hitting the ball too far. Practice your lobs while trying to get your forward hand to turn under the club. This will help hold the clubface open longer for a higher shot. A good way to focus on doing this is to guide your forward hand under so the palm points up towards the sky.
I always just think about keeping the face of the club pointed towards the sky as long as possible after contact.
This is not a good tip: Accelerate through and under the ball with, as Ken said, an open face as long as possible. A flat and short backswing can help depending on the length of the lob. Remember just sweep the grass with the club head and you should get a nice high trajectory followed by a soft landing.
Mike, perhaps you misread the tip. The way I read it, it is saying the same thing.
