Rock Your Body

Problem

You second guess the distance you should stand from the ball and you feel this is causing your inconsistent shots.

Cure

One way to tell if you are standing too far away or too close to the ball is to check to see where your weight is placed on your feet. If you are placing too much weight on your toes then it shows that you are standing too far away so you need to lean out to reach it. If you have most of your weight on your heels, then you are standing too close to the ball, causing you to try to lean back and away from the ball.

Therapy

Set up to the ball without grounding the club. Check your weight distribution on your feet. You want the weight centered over the arches of your feet. So rock your body forward onto your toes and then back on your heels. Keep rocking your body a little slower until you feel your weight starting to center itself on your arches. Once you know your weight is placed on your feet correctly, then ground the club with your arms relaxed. Where the clubhead is resting on the ground is where you want the ball to be set up at. If it is not, reposition your body or the ball accordingly.

An unusual method, but will gladly try it. I am sure it is one of my problems.

I'm fine with my distance to the ball at address. After I hit it though, I'm too close.

I use this rocking drill all the time but I use it more to make sure I am not out on my toes which causes me to come over the top. I do the rock and then put what feels like just slightly more weight on my heels than my toes. For all I know I may be perfectly balanced. All I know is I started eliminating the over-the-top move and was hitting my natural soft draw which had gotten away from me for the past couple years.
