Reverse Pivot
Problem
You lose distance because you allowed your back shoulder to drop into a reverse pivot.
Cure
A common key thought during a long drive is to get your forward shoulder under your chin during the backswing. This often causes you to dip your body or a reverse pivot with an incorrect weight shift. Instead, focus on your back shoulder making a strong turning action that moves up and behind your head. To help cure your reverse pivot, you need a more level swing. If the clubhead is traveling parallel to the ground in the impact zone then this will help ensure the ball will fly as far as possible.
Therapy
If you turn your forward knee inwards, behind the ball during the backswing it will help enhance and ensure a proper weight shift. Your weight will naturally shift onto your forward foot as you start your downswing. It will also help you establish a level swing, proper shoulder turn, and prevent your back shoulder from dropping. For more distance and power, practice making a larger shoulder turn so that your back shoulder coils upwards. At the top of your swing, you want your back shoulder to point behind your head with the shoulder blade on your forward shoulder pointing down behind the ball. To gain the late hitting position that power hitters achieve, you want the clubhead to lag behind the end of the shaft at the beginning of your downswing. Start your downswing with the same angle that you established at the top of your backswing until the clubfshaft reaches the level of your waist. Then bring the clubhead down so that it is parallel to the ground through the impact zone.
