Tip From the Archives
Restricted Sand Trap
Problem
The ball landed in the bunker and you will not be able to make a full follow through.
Cure
Try making a sand punch shot out of the bunker.
Therapy
Stand near the ball to make your practice swings so you can get a feeling of your lie. Test to see how far you can swing the club into the follow through to gain this feeling in your arms. If you want to keep the ball low or need it to roll more on the green use one of your shorter irons. If you still have a good stretch from the pin, select your 6 iron and play the ball just ahead of your trailing toe. Set the majority of your weight on your forward foot with the center of your body just ahead of the ball to help encourage a steeper swing. Make a quick wrist hinge during the backswing. Because you will be forced to take a short follow through, take a slightly longer backswing than you normally would for this shot at about three quarters. Use this extra length of the swing to really accelerate into the ball.
