Tip From the Archives

Reaching For It

Problem

You tend to feel as if you are reaching for the ball or are uncomfortable at address.

Cure

Check your posture and distance from the ball. You do not want to place too much weight on your heels or to be standing too far from the ball at set up.

Therapy

Get into your normal set up position. Now try to raise your toes off of the ground. If you can do this easily, you know your upper body is not tilted down towards the ball enough or you are placing too much weight on your heels. Think of the posture you need if you were dribbling a basketball. Your body will be tilted towards the ball, knees flexed, with your weight placed just forward of the center of your arches. Set up to the ball and lightly bounce your heels off of the ground a couple of times to help you get into proper positioning. This should give you a more natural feeling at address.

Tricky. Many players tend to fall into the ball in the downswing. In this case, more weight on the heels at address can help.

Dragonhead I always rock toes to heels to centre my weight over the balls of the feet. This gives a powerful base to coil on. Remembering it is all about maintaining the angles back and through.Poor balance is the cause of most problems. The Chinese say " Never give a sword to a man who can't dance", that holds true in Golf too in my humble opinion!
