Putting Distance

Problem

You focus too much on aim and not enough on proper pace and distance. This will most result in the common 3 putt.

Cure

Focus on putting the correct distance by mastering the proper putting pace for each shot. It is better to lag the putt with a good pace so it lies close to the hole and then tap it in than it would to have to 3 putt due to focusing too much on aim instead of distance.

Therapy

Determine the speed of the green by accessing if you are going uphill, downhill, with or against the grain. Keep your head, eyes, and lower body still. Hang your arms straight down to allow your hands to be aligned with your shoulders. Using a light grip, make practice strokes until you feel the stroke is appropriate for the intended putt. Once you feel the stroke is correct, it will help you visualize making the shot for a smooth and successful putt. Now focus on the target as you swing the club as practiced, make contact with the sweet spot on the putter, and accelerate through the ball.
