Tip From the Archives
Putter First
Problem
You are having difficulty aiming your putts.
Cure
Take an extra minute to visualize how the ball will roll to the hole to help you see and determine the break. Stand behind your putter and aim the clubface. If you have a line or a dot, make sure the putter is aimed at your target area.
Therapy
Find the apex of the break. Keep this point in mind as you select your line. Aim the face of your putter so that it is square to your line. Now align your feet, hips, shoulders, and eyes to your line.
3days ago I checked my shoulder aim. I set up to a putt and trapped a piece of beading about 60cms long between my chin and the front of my shoulders. I then without moving removed my right hand off the putter grip and pinned it in place with my right hand and swivelled to check my parallel left.To my distinct displeasure I discovered that what I thought was square was in fact not. My left shoulder was forward and the beading strip was pointing towards the target itself. Instant accurate putts were the result. So even if no one is around check your shoulder alignment. A club shaft would do (minus the head as the weight makes it difficult to stabilize with one hand.A piece of pea-cane, bamboo will do). This will definitely surprise you. Check now! As a bonus my iron shots are also now very straight and accurate.
