Tip From the Archives
Putt to a Tee
Problem
You need to work on your putting stroke to help gain the proper feel for distance, speed, and aim.
Cure
Spend at least ten minutes on the putting green before starting your round of golf to practice your stroke.
Therapy
A great drill to help improve the accuracy of your putting stroke is to practice hitting tees in the green. It also has a great benefit on your mental game because the hole will appear much bigger compared to hitting a tee. Place about twelve tees into the green in different directions and distances. For added difficulty, find an area where there is a slope on the green and place one tee about three feet directly behind another. Hit the first tee. Then use another ball and try hitting the second tee without making contact with the first ball or tee. This will help you practice reading and playing the break in the green.
Excellent drill. But it is also important to watch how far the ball goes past the tee when you miss hitting the tee (to wit -- the golden 17 inches that Dave Pelz empahsizes).
