Putt Placement

Problem

You wonder where to place the ball in your stance when putting.

Cure

Ball placement can vary slightly based on the style of grip that you use. In general, it is best to find the bottom of your arc and place the ball at that point.

Therapy

Swing back and forth to find the bottom of your stroke. Some players find it useful to sprinkle cornstarch baby powder on the green to help them see where they are sweeping the most. The ball should be placed at this point or slightly forward of the bottom of your stroke. It is usually about one ball back in your stance from the inside part of the foot. If your lead hand is placed low on the grip, you will want to place the ball just ahead of the bottom of your swing arc. This would be about right along the inside of the instep of your front foot. With a belly putter, the bottom of your swing arc should be in the center of your stance, so place it just a little in front of this point.
