Putt Over a Spot

Problem

You do not get as much distance out of your putts as you should.

Cure

Do not stop the stroke once you hit the ball. It is important to try to match the length of your follow through with your backswing so that you continue accelerating through the ball.

Therapy

Find a spot a few inches ahead of your ball and use this as a point of reference of how far you want to bring the putterhead past the ball during your follow through. Select a spot on the target side of the ball that is only a couple of inches away from it. Use a spot to focus on that is even farther away from the ball for a longer putt. Not only will this help you to remember to continue accelerating the putter during the stroke but it will also help you keep the putter face square to the target longer.
