Pronounced Waggle

Problem

You lose distance and notice that you do not make much of a turn during the backswing.

Cure

Instead of simply waggling the club before teeing off, make a longer waggle that will show encourage a better turn.

Therapy

Waggles are used to relax your arms and to rehearse your swing for both physical and mental purposes. When you waggle the club, you usually want to outline the path going away from and returning to the ball. It is usually kept short and low to the ground. When it is time to actually drive the ball, some players keep the clubhead low for too long and then lift the clubhead up, instead of making a proper turn and they end up flipping their hands at impact. If this is happening to you, practice making a longer waggle that ends when the clubshaft is parallel to the ground. Work on taking the club back smoothly with your shoulders starting to turn by the time the club is parallel to the ground. This will prepare your body and mind for the actual swing. When you do take your tee shot, think turn back, accelerate through.

ie, keep the triangle of club/hands/shoulders in sync until the club is parallel to the deck. Low and slow to there, then accelerating smoothly from about the same place on the way down, does it for me. Turn the your head with the club head towards the target. This ensures the big core muscles drive the ball forward and stops the aching neck caused by "keep your head still" brigade, which invariably means your arms flip at the ball. After 30 years of constant pain, I am now pain free and have added 30-40 yards per club, accuracy up significantly in the process.Remember practice makes perfect, it has.
