Tip From the Archives
Pressure Killer
Problem
Anxiety destroys your rhythm and your round.
Cure
When adrenaline builds up, it becomes very important that you slow down everything you do. Concentrate only on the next shot at hand and not on the score or your competitors. Remember, most players can only expect a few perfect shots in a round, so do not allow yourself to get upset over the rest.
Therapy
Walk the course as much and as casually as possible to give yourself time to relax and visualize your next shot. Select your club carefully and practice your preshot routine slower than usual. The takeaway is one of the most crucial steps for accuracy so this point of your swing needs to be timed at a slower pace so you can gradually increase your speed from this point. If you feel that there is even a slight risk with your decision, it can cause stress to build up. Use this as a cue to take the safe shot to help build confidence and save you a few strokes.
