Pre Turn for Leverage

Problem

You have trouble with your takeaway and have a need to maximize leverage for a more powerful swing.

Cure

Create a smooth takeaway, rotation and a pull in your downswing by practicing the preset drill.

Therapy

To help improve your takeaway, you should start out presetting your swing by slowly swinging the club waist high so that the club points upwards. While in this position, count to three and then turn your shoulders to complete the backswing. Your club should now be in the correct position for the top of your swing. Practice this drill a couple of times to help maintain this sensation and then complete the swing. Now it is time to practice pre turning your swing to help improve leverage and distance. Place the ball slightly in front of the center of your stance, turn your torso, and bend your head slightly behind your club head. Maintain your spine angle as your right hip rotates toward your left hip and your left knee turns in slightly. Pull the club head through the ball and do not straighten your arms completely until after you have made contact with the ball.
