Tip From the Archives
Practice Swing Trouble
Problem
Your practice swing felt great but you can never swing exactly like you did when you try to hit the ball.
Cure
Remember to complete your preshot routine and to focus on the target. Although you want to keep that feeling of a wonderful swing both mentally and physically, you cannot rush to hit the ball. This would cause you to lose your mental image of the target, trajectory, or even grip the club harder than usual because of the excitement of hitting it well.
Therapy
Give yourself a little more time before hitting the ball. Step away from the ball and look at your target line down to the target area and back to the ball. You already know how you want to hit it so take the time to visualize the ball flying as you know it will during your actual shot.
Great tip but surely the 'problem' is worded incorrectly! It makes no sense! "you can never hit the ball exactly like you did during your practice swing." You don't actually 'hit the ball' during your practice swing! if you do it is no longer a 'practice swing' and a stroke has to be counted!
It probably means how you visualized hitting it.
Sorry, I did not notice how the problem could have been interpreted that way when it was posted. I edited it so it will read easier.
when I use this approach (visualization) and relaxation. I do actually improve my results, but for one reason or another last week's round was horrible. I even stood back and visualized every hit, relaxed my swing, etc. and I was ll over the place, fat irons, heel striking on drives etc. what a nightmare. 10-12 strokes higher than normal last week. I hope that's over.
