Practice Breathing

Problem

You have a difficulty relaxing while you golf.

Cure

Practice breathing at home, work, or in your golf cart as you wait to for your tee time.

Therapy

Although simply taking a couple of deep breaths before you tee off will allow you to relax and focus on the shot at hand, you will also benefit from deep breathing exercises to help you relax overall and enjoy the game more. Sit with your back straight but not tense. Slowly inhale through your nose. As you exhale, slowly exhale through your mouth. Feel your abdominal muscles tighten and move in towards your spine with each exhale. The exhalation should take twice as long as inhalation. Time how long it takes you to inhale a nice deep breath. If it takes you three seconds to inhale, take six seconds to exhale. After focusing purely on deep breaths and the timing of each breath, you will soon discover that you are also clearing your mind and relaxing your body.
