Pouring Water
Problem
You have a difficult time reading the break on the greens.
Cure
Pour some water on the green and watch which way the water runs on the green. If you drop the ball on the green, you should notice that the ball will run in a similar fashion.
Therapy
Pay to play a round of golf but only work on your short game using two balls. Chip the first ball onto the green and then move to a different location around the green and chip the other ball. Watch to see how the balls roll once they land on the green. Continue playing the balls so that you putt the furthest ball first. When in doubt about the break, pour a little water on the green and watch to see how it rolls. Just keep in mind that this little trick will also affect the speed of the green as well.
I wouldn't be happy playing behind someone that was hitting multiple shots around the green and pouring water all over the place.
Totally agree with Tim on this one! Then I suppose if your crazy enough to carry water around with you for that purpose... should you really be playing golf?
Are you serious?
When I find that I have forgotten my "greens test" water, I just pee on the green and watch where it runs.
Yeh really. I mean come on! You know what you should do instead of pouring water. Putt the ball and hope for the best.
It wouldn't bother me so much if the person wasn't playing two balls for the entire round but just around the green without the long game would be alright. The water trick might be helpful when I cannot figure out the break, but like any other method, it should be used in moderation along with some common sense. Not like I'd back up a tanker truck with water to see how it flushes off of the green or anything. ;)
I think the Medic threw this one in to see if we were paying attention...
