Tip From the Archives
Plugged Lie
Problem
Your ball is plugged into the sand so that it is half buried or more.
Cure
The more experience you have with buried sand shots, the further you can place the ball in your stance and use an open clubface. This will require a steeper and more powerful swing. If you are not used to this shot, put the ball towards the back of your stance with a square and hooded clubface.
Therapy
Place the majority of your weight onto your forward leg. Square and hood the clubface and keep your hands ahead of the ball. Dig the club deep into the sand about one inch behind the ball. Avoid releasing through the shot so you can hit down hard enough to bury the club into the sand. If you have an uphill buried lie, then make sure you use an open clubface.
