Play Hard

Problem

You and your friends always play a relaxed and fun round. However, once you play in a tournament, you do not play as well as you should.

Cure

Try to play with the same group of people and channel the fun energy you usually have with your group. Consider what you do during a regular round that makes it enjoyable. Is it the conversation, pranks, or bets?

Therapy

One thing that you can do during your normal round that can help you improve your tournament play is to keep an accurate score card by playing according to the rules. Count every mistake and penalty. You need this mindset and pressure to carry over from a relaxed round to tournament play. Putt each hole out even if the ball is only an inch from the cup. Be hard on yourself even with friends around to help you achieve more overall.

I thought I was the only one to have this problem. I play really well with my buddies and fail miserably when I play in tournments? It takes me a while to relax when I play in front of so many new people?
