Play a Round at the Range

Problem

You see little improvement after spending hours at the driving range.

Cure

Most people focus on just using their driver or whatever club they had difficulty with on the course. It is always best to try to figure out what ever fault you have with a certain club and to practice with it a little more to help work out any kinks you may have in your swing. However, you will find that your entire game will improve if you spend at least 20 minutes cycling through your clubs. If you only practice one or two swings, then these are what your subconscious and muscle memory stores; setting you up for disaster when you attempt to use other clubs needed on the course.

Therapy

One of the best ways to practice your swing at the range or in your backyard is to take a scorecard from a course that you play at on a regular basis and pretend that you are out on the course. Look at the first hole and recall how you normally tee off and take that swing. Now, assess how the far you hit the ball and decide where it would have landed on the course. If you landed in the sand, rough, or in the middle of the fairway, then take the appropriate club for that situation and take your next swing with it. Continue to play through each hole as if you were on the course until you complete the entire score card or at least for 9 holes. By doing this, you increase your concentration, evaluation skills, range of motion, and exercise the muscles that you will actually need to use on the course.
