Pitching Swing Lengths

Problem

You need to learn how far you should bring your hands back while pitching.

Cure

Your backswing and follow though should be at the same length. There are for basic lengths to pitch a ball. These lengths are a quarter, half, three quarters, and full swings.

Therapy

Imagine that you are standing in front of a giant clock. Your feet are at the 6 o’clock marker. The basic pitch shot is a half swing length. This is achieved when you swing your hands back to the nine o’clock marker and forward to the three o’clock marker. For a quarter swing, take your hands back to the eight and forward to the four marker on the clock. When you make a three quarter swing, you should bring your hands back to the ten and forward to the two. With the full swing, your hands will need to move back to the eleven o’clock to the one o’clock markers. As you practice your different swinging lengths, study how far the ball flies at your normal swinging speed. Then try it at slower and faster speeds to see how much difference it makes in both loft and distance.
