Tip From the Archives
Pitch and Stop
Problem
The pin is towards the back of the green with a steep slope behind it.
Cure
Since the green is not likely to hold your ball if you hit at the pin, try to stop the ball before the pin with the Pitch and Stop.
Therapy
Pitch and Stop shot will allow the ball to bounce a couple of times and then slows down. It requires a little extra practice to master it than the pitch and run but provides more control on difficult greens. Use a sandwedge and set the ball slightly back in your stance. Keep your body weight forward throughout the entire swing. You want your hands to move in front of the clubhead through impact.
