Tip From the Archives
Pine Needles
Problem
Your ball landed in pine needles.
Cure
Avoid resting the clubhead behind your ball on the ground because you are likely to move the ball if you do. Instead, hold the club so that it is just above the pine needles when you set up behind the ball.
Therapy
Ideally, you will want to move some pine needles out from under your feet because you are likely to slip and fall if you take a powerful swing. However, you should only do this if you are certain that you will not cause a chain reaction that will move the ball. You should be able to use the normal swing that you would play in the fairway. If you are uncertain how to play it, use a short iron and place the ball a little further back than the middle of your stance. Put a little extra weight onto your forward leg and keep your hands just ahead of the ball. Make sure you keep your wrist still as you swing the club back about waist high.
