Picture Perfect
Problem
You cannot stop hitting the ball in the exact location you vowed not to hit it at.
Cure
The problem with avoiding to hit the ball in the trouble area is that you have already taken the time to visualize this spot and the horrible swing required to reach it. Next time you play, do not even look at the troublesome locations. Only think about finding safe areas to land the ball.
Therapy
Most players look at the scorecard and look out at the fairway to see where all of the trouble areas are so that they know what to avoid. Instead, think positive. If you can ahead of time, take a green colored marker and shade over all of the trouble areas on the score card. If these trouble areas are on the edge of the fairway, shade from that point out to the edge of the page. Use this card to help block out the danger zones because they do not exist. Look at the scorecard and the fairway to create an image in your mind of only the safe fairway because nothing else exists. Plan your shot only based on where you want the ball to land in order to give yourself a nice second hit. Look out on the fairway and visualize the ball landing at this location.
