Tip From the Archives

Overshooting the Green

Problem

The ball landed in a greenside bunker. If you overshoot the green then the ball will end up in water on the other side.

Cure

Open the clubface even more than usual for this shot to ensure enough loft so that you do not overshoot the green.

Therapy

Dig your feet into the sand for stable footing. Make sure you open the clubface and then take your normal grip. Place the ball well ahead of the center of your stance. Take a full swing and enter the sand two to three inches behind the ball. As you finish the swing, the center of your chest should be pointing at the pin.
