Overactive Arms

Problem

You cannot figure out why you need to rotate your arms so much in order to make flush contact with the ball.

Cure

Videotape your swing or have someone watch it for you to help you determine if your body is moving irregularly after takeaway, causing you to over rotate your arms in order to make contact with the ball.

Therapy

Make sure you are not bouncing or standing upright during your swing. Another possibility is that you could be lifting your head up at the beginning of your backswing or rotating your arms too much at takeaway. If you can keep your head and spine down, you will not need to rotate your arms so much.

There are some simpler things to try such as keeping your head still over the ball during your backswing, making sure your eye is always on the ball during the swing, putting a ball behind your back foot to make sure you don't sway backwards on the backswing that may also help.
