Tip From the Archives

Over Thinking It

Problem

You look at your line from every direction possible and have worked on your aiming until it is very precise at home, yet you are still missing an excessive amount of putts.

Cure

Be certain to practice on the putting green before you begin your round. This is because putting on the course will have a different feel and roll than what you are experiencing at home. You could be over thinking about every dip and bump on the green, changing how you decide to putt the ball. So, just keep it simple and only account for the major break on the green.

Therapy

As you set up to the ball, take note of the first bump or dip you see on the green. Will this really affect your line? If the answer is not an obvious yes, then just aim the line on the top of your putter towards the pin and putt. Believe that you will make it and remember to accelerate through the stroke.
