Tip From the Archives
Optimist Putter
Problem
You know before making or completing the stoke that you are not going to make the putt.
Cure
Always try to make the putt. Too many players try to hit so they will have a good second stroke hit if they miss the first. When you think you will putt it in the first try, you are far more likely to do so.
Therapy
Since you are likely planning on sinking the shorter putts, start your practice on the green with short putts. Make at least three shots about two feet away and then move back a foot. Continue to make three putts and move back a foot until you reach the edge of the green. Visualize where the ball will enter the cup and have confidence that it will. Take a few steps to the right and make only long putts; have faith that you will sink them.
