Tip From the Archives

On the Upswing

Problem

You want to add a little more distance.

Cure

When you accelerate through the ball, the clubhead will build up speed. The clubhead continues to accelerate past impact. Take advantage of this extra speed by making contact with the ball at the beginning of your upswing.

Therapy

Tee the ball a little forward and higher than usual. Steepen your swing a little by tilting your body back. Now as you swing, try to make contact with the ball just as you begin your follow through.

The further forward I tee the ball, the more left it goes

You are obviously approaching the ball on an out to in swing path.Probably an unco-ordinated too quick swing. This is more a hands and arms only swing. Sloooow down your swing and co-ordinate your arms and body movements. Quick is not necessarily the way to increased club head and extra distance.Think, how does a slip of a girl out drive a six foot odd 200lb man??? They co-ordinate their core muscles, with the rest of their body.
