Tip From the Archives
On the Go Stretches
Problem
You do not have time to stretch and prepare for your round of golf.
Cure
You can do a few pregame stretches in the car.
Therapy
Driving safety comes first; however there are a few ways you can prepare for the game regardless if you are driving or riding to the course. Play some relaxing music along the way. Relax your arms by flexing your wrists as you hold onto the steering wheel. Stretch your spine by rocking your shoulders upward one at a time. Relax your neck and shoulders by rolling your shoulders back towards the seat and then in the other direction. At stops, take a second or two to close your eyes, breath deeply, and extend your arms and turn them as if you are turning knobs. When you get out of the car, stand next to it and turn your body so you touch the car as far behind you as possible. Turn around and stretch out your other side. Before teeing off, take your two heaviest irons and make a few slow swings. If possible, hit last to allow extra time to take a few practice swings. Walk as much as possible for the first few holes to help your body warm up faster.
