Off of the Toe

Problem

You hit the ball off of the toe with a mid-iron due to swinging on an in-to-out path. You may fail to release your hands and arms when you approach the hitting area because you are rotating and over extending your arms outward. Tension could also cause you to hit off of the toe of the club because it causes you to pull your arms closer towards your body. This allows the toe to make contact with the ball, causing it to fly to the right of the target.

Cure

Focus on releasing tension from your arms before swinging. You may also need to learn how to swing on an inside-square-inside path by releasing your hands, arms, and club at the point of impact.

Therapy

As you practice doing this, place your driver on the ground so that the shaft is parallel to the target line about two inches outside of the ball. Focus on this secondary line as you attempt to swing just inside of it. Release your hands during impact, it will help you bring the club back inside and help prevent the rotation of your arms.
