Tip From the Archives

No Score

Problem

You need to improve your game overall.

Cure

Improve consistency by focusing only on making clean contact with the ball.

Therapy

Play a round without recording your score. Simply focus on making square contact with the ball with appropriate loft with each club. Find specific challenges such as the rough, bunker, and uneven lies and aim for it. This will help you better prepare for these shots when they really count.

i would think that the practcie range is the place to go...then, when you can "make square contact with the appropriate loft of each club" at least 5-6 times for each 10 practice balls hit, you can move up to playing a no-score round...

I think sometimes people underestimate how much internal stress you place on yourself on the course, thinking about trying to score. The mental aspects of my game - overswinging or overthinking - are killers. I think this is a good, and challenging, tip. Tough to do, though. My head is always in the way of my game.
