Moving Off Plane

Problem

You start your swing on plane but somewhere between the top and the downswing your swing moves off plane.

Cure

Have someone watch your swing or record it to see if you are coming over the top or look for any other obvious swing errors.

Therapy

One error that can cause this change in swing plane happens when your trailing elbow points behind or away from your body. This one error can cause the clubhead to move across the target line and make it too difficult to correct it before impact. You want your trailing elbow to point down at the top of your swing. It is a critical move that is often overlooked. It is great to work on achieving because when the trailing elbow is down, you will have the club parallel to your target line at the top. This will set you up for an amazing downswing that is on plane.
