Lunging Forward

Problem

You have a loss of distance and notice that you tend to lunge towards the ball or feel like you are falling forward during your follow through.

Cure

Stop your swing at contact with the ball and check to see if your head or upper body are in front of your forward leg. This indicates an improper hip rotation at contact so your body cannot stay behind the ball as it should.

Therapy

Set up with the target side of your bottom just barely touching your golf bag. Slowly swing your club and as you start your downswing, turn your hips as they apply pressure against the bag. Stop your swing when you can no longer safely complete moving your upper body around the bag. This will help you learn to initiate your downswing with a proper lower body rotation.
