Tip From the Archives
Low Trajectory Hardpan
Problem
The ball landed in the short grass but the ground is incredibly hard. Because it is windy or you have plenty of green to work with, or you just want more control, you have decided to keep the ball low.
Cure
Although a steep, descending swing is usually recommended to make it out of the hardpan, some players have difficulty with it because the bounce of the club will make it bounce into the ball. Keep in mind that anytime the ball has landed in a bad lie, the easiest way to get it out is to make a low trajectory shot.
Therapy
Set your bodyweight forward with your hands ahead of the ball. Although this is a lower shot, you can still allow some wrist cock and take a descending blow, just make sure you do not take too steep of a swing.
