Low Lob
Problem
You want a low, spinning lob shot or you need better control over the distance and direction of your iron shots.
Cure
The key to controlling the distance of your shots is by controlling the trajectory of them. You will find that it is much easier to control the directions of your iron shots when they have a lower trajectory. Practice hitting your lob wedge. Once you are used to controlling the trajectory of your lob shots, you will find it is much easier to learn how to control it with all of your other irons. Keep in mind that the more open the clubface is, the more loft you will get. So if you are trying to make a low lob shot, make sure the clubface is square.
Therapy
Select a target or aim at the pin and practice hitting at it several times. Once you hit that area consistently, move back but aim at the same object. Continue to change your position until you have a better feel for controlling your lob shots. Lean the shaft of the club towards the target with a little more of your body weight placed on the target side. Square your clubface and make sure you release the clubface into the ball. As you are releasing into the ball, it will turn the clubface down to help reduce the loft. Avoid using the bounce of the club; so, make sure you use the leading edge of the club by making a downward blow. Do not worry about making much of a follow through because after hitting into the ground, it will naturally decelerate your swing and limit your follow through. Just be certain that you do not allow the club to pass your hands.
