Tip From the Archives
Long Putting Control
Problem
You need to work on distance control with your long putts.
Cure
For long distances, you might want to focus on getting the ball near the cup for an easy second putt.
Therapy
Practice putting from one edge of the green to the other. Set a bunch of balls on the ground near the fringe. Practice putting to the opposite end of the green. You goal is to have the ball to stop a few inches away from the fringe. You no longer have to worry about making it into the cup and can focus only on your distance control. Now go to the other end and play the balls from where they lie. Play the shortest putts first and work your way back. Try to get the balls to stop 18 inches from the fringe.
