Loft Loss

Problem

You have noticed that you do not get the loft you desire but it is not due to hand position or changing the loft of the clubface.

Cure

Check to see how you start your swing. Sometimes when golfers put too much thought into initiating their forward swing with their legs, they unintentionally get into the habit of excessively leaning or sliding their lower body towards the target. This will prevent a proper turn and will take loft off of the club. Initiating your downswing with leg movement is great but you should work on turning more with your body so this does not happen.

Therapy

Practice creating a better turn during your backswing for a better coil. Take the club back and pause your swing once the club is parallel to the ground. Take note of how much your shoulders have turned at this point. Now do it again but this time try to have your shoulders turned a little more than the time before. Continue to do so, until you have turned as much as possible without allowing your body to slide or sway. Repeat this until the fuller turn feels comfortable then apply it to your full swing.
