Tip From the Archives

Lob Cut

Problem

You have a very little amount of green to work with and want to hit a short, high shot.

Cure

Hit a lob cut with a full finish.

Therapy

Set the clubface open and set the ball in the center of your stance. Place about an equal amount of bodyweight on both legs. You will want to aim a couple feet left of the target if you are a right handed player or aim a couple of feet to the right of the target if you are a left handed player. Make an aggressive swing with a full finish.

I find that the alignment of the club face generally predicts direction of the ball flight, except that the ball develops an inside to outside lateral spin (to the right for righthanders, etc) and so can roll a bit farther to the outside after it lands.
