Tip From the Archives
Lob and Putt
Problem
You want to lower your score.
Cure
Work on your short game about half of the practice time. If you need to take your game to the next level, you need to practice it. You spend half of the game on the green but most people only practice their drives through wedge shots at the range. Find a green you can practice on, carpeting similar to the greens you play, or use an indoor practice putting green.
Therapy
Practice your short game by working on contact first, trajectory, target, varying your target, and then the shape of the shot. Do not just work on your lobs over and over again and then on your putting. Use a single ball, lob it up onto the green and then putt it into the cup as you would in a normal round. Now select a different location near the green to lob the ball and play it until you sink it into the cup.
