Tip From the Archives
Light Rough
Problem
Your ball landed in the light rough, still a long distance from the green. The grass is pointing away from you, towards the target.
Cure
Normally, a steeper swinging plane will help you get the ball out of the rough. However, since the ball is sitting up in the light rough, if you hit down onto the ball too hard or at too steep of an angle then you will end up hitting the ball fat. Hit a flier shot to help you achieve the extra distance you need to make it to the green.
Therapy
Place the ball an inch or two back in your stance. Swing on a flatter swinging plane than usual for added distance. Do not be afraid to let the grass come between the clubface and the ball at impact, this will help keep the ball low, reduce spin, and give some extra roll when landing.
