Tip From the Archives
Leverage for Power
Problem
You want more powerful drives.
Cure
Utilize your weight shift to help create more leverage and therefore a more powerful golf swing.
Therapy
You will need to have a friend help you with this drill. Setup without a ball. Stop your swing during your backswing just as the butt of the shaft is pointing towards the target. Ask your friend to hold the clubhead in their hands and pull it away from the target. This pulling action will help give you the feeling of a good arm extension and make you more aware of where you need to create leverage during the golf swing. You should feel it in your trailing hip and ankle. Now have them pull a little harder and then abruptly let go of the club. Notice how your weight moved toward the target and onto your forward foot. Your weight will transfer to your leading side automatically when you create leverage and move the clubhead through the ball. This is the feeling you want to recreate during your full swings.
