Less Spin

Problem

You need to learn how to reduce the spin on the ball while hitting short wedge shots.

Cure

Bounce adds spin on the ball. The bounce on your wedge will cause the club to bounce up into the ball, the ball moves up the grooves and this creates spin. Deloft your club to reduce the amount of bounce and spin.

Therapy

Place a row of balls on the ground and set up to the first ball with it placed back in your stance. Set your hands ahead of the ball and keep your front wrist straight throughout the entire swing, including the follow-through. You want to keep your front wrist straight so that if you hold your follow-through position that you could immediately hit the next ball without any adjustments of this lead arm. Hit down on the ball and hold your follow-through position. Your front wrist should be straight. Freeze your wrists and hands, move your arms back and hit the next ball. Keep doing this until you can keep your lead wrist flat enough that this drill feels natural to do.
